Why weather radios for my county?
Simply put, NOAA Weather Radios save lives. We believe that it is important for everyone to have multiple, redundant ways of receiving alerts and that includes a NOAA Weather Radio. Cellphone towers can become overwhelmed or destroyed during severe weather so sometimes alerts coming over your phone can be significantly delayed, or not arrive at all. Weather radios are less expensive and more effective than an outdoor siren. They are an "indoor siren."

I think too many people believe that the more advanced the technology is, the better it is. There are too many folks who do not understand that a single point of failure in an alerting system can be catastrophic. The weather radio is a low cost, highly targeted, direct source alerting system that conveys information that provides situational awareness about just-in-time risk and appropriate life safety actions. Everyone working in this space should be able to speak to their power of this tool.
