The range stated for our radios is the maximum range in ideal conditions, like mountain top to mountain top.

Unfortunately, radio frequency is affected by obstacles such as obstructions, terrain, weather, material, etc. These degrade radios. The actual range of your radio is greatly dependent on your environment.

A GMRS license is required by the Federal Communications Commission. The license is $35, is good for up to 10 years, and covers your family. Visit the FCC website to apply. To learn more about the license, head here.

General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is a two-way radio service that consists of 22 channels. GMRS radios boast power from 2 Watts up to 50 Watts while Citizens Band (CB) can only operate up to 4 Watts. GMRS radios bring clearer communication than CB radios.

Yes, all of Midland's FRS and GMRS walkie talkies are compatible with your MicroMobiles.

Privacy codes don’t keep your conversation private, they simply filter out transmissions from others who aren’t using the same CTCSS or DCS tone. If you have a privacy tone enabled and someone else doesn’t, they’ll hear your transmission, but you won’t hear theirs.

Midland’s MXR10 Repeater and MXR10VP Repeater Bundle is compatible with the following MicroMobile® Two-Way Radios: MXR10, MX10VP, MXT115, MXT275, MXT400, MXT500, MXT575.

Programming software is available for download on the product page. It will download in a zip file. 

Mounting height of the repeater is not consequential. The MXR10 should be located with easy access to the power and the coax feeding the antenna system. Ideally, the location should be clean, dry, and not exposed to direct sunlight.  

The antenna mounting height is important as increased mounting height allows the signal to clear obstructions that will attenuate the signal. 

Antenna structures may have local association, zoning, and code restrictions or requirements. Antenna structures that exceed 20 feet near an airport or 200 ft in any location, need to be compliant with Title 47 CFR Part 17. This is regarding FCC and FAA Registration Marking and Lighting Requirements.

The difference between the MXR10 and MXR10VP is the MXR10VP is the bundle. The MXR10 includes the repeater and AC Adapter. The MXR10VP includes the repeater, AC Adapter, Programming Cable, 10 dB Antenna, 50 Foot Cable, and Antenna Mount.

Higher gain antennas generally increase range. 10 dB of gain more than doubles the range.

Midland’s GMRS Repeater boasts 10 watts in high power mode and 5 watts in low power mode.

Yes, the repeater needs to be plugged in. The MXR10 and MXR10VP comes with an AC power adapter cord and a 12 V DC power cord.

GMRS is in the UHF frequency band, between 462-468 MHz. The MXR10 and MXR10VP is intended only for GMRS frequencies.

Yes, it does. Midland Radio suggests an omnidirectional base antenna covering the GMRS band, 462-468 MHz. Midland also suggests a Low Loss LMR400 or RGB cable. 

Upgrade to Midland’s MXR10VP Repeater Bundle which includes a 10dB antenna, antenna mount, and 50-foot-long cable.

Midland shows the maximum range that can be reached by
a model in ideal conditions. Ideal conditions include no obstructions between you and the other person, a fully charged radio set to high power, and communication over a flat surface such as water or mountain top to mountain top.

Family Radio Service (FRS) and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) operate on the same
frequencies, but with different power. FRS has a maximum power of 2 Watts while GMRS is 2 Watts and up. However, FRS and GMRS radios are compatible.

Yes! All of Midland’s FRS and GMRS walkie talkies are compatible with your MicroMobile.

You can use a desktop charger, AC wall adapter, and micro-USB charging cable.

No, but we recommend using them. Our walkie talkies come with a set.

NOAA Weather Radio (NWR) is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information direct from a nearby National Weather Service office. NWR broadcasts National Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day. For more information, visit the NWS website.

Weather radios equipped with a siren feature will sound a weather alert giving immediate information about a life-threatening situation. It's the fastest and most reliable way to receive official warnings.

Weather radios are called “indoor tornado sirens” because they broadcast tornado warnings as soon as they are issued and can wake you while sleeping. Outdoor storm sirens are meant only for warning people outdoors. They may not be heard
at night or during a loud thunderstorm.

All Hazards Weather Alert Radios will sound for a variety of situations, including severe weather, hurricanes, tornadoes, Amber alerts and non-weather civil emergencies. Portable versions of NWR like the Midland ER50
E+Ready®Emergency Weather Alert Crank Radio provide localized alerts to travelers, storm watchers and outdoorsmen.

"Any radio" won’t do because only a weather radio can receive
NOAA broadcasts. A weather radio that can run on back-up batteries is the only way to ensure you receive severe weather and public alerts even without electricity.

While cellphones are great, towers can become overwhelmed, destroyed, or damaged. This could result in a significant delay in receiving an alert or you might not receive one at all. It is important to have
multiple, redundant ways of receiving your emergency and weather alerts.

Desktop weather radios default to a "silent" weekly test. During the test, the "ADVISORY" light illuminates and “Required Weekly Test” will be visible on the display. The radio will not sound an audible alert tone to avoid giving the impression of an actual alarm. The visual response to the test is confirmation that your radio is working properly.

The “ON/OFF” switch on the side of the WR120 radio MUST always remain ON in order to receive alerts. If you are receiving poor reception then you may not get the alerts

If you walk past your radio and notice a WARNING, WATCH, or ADVISORY light is illuminated, simply press the WEATHER/SNOOZE button to hear what is happening.

Broadcast range from the weather radio transmitter is approximately 40 miles. The
effective range depends on terrain, quality of the receiver, and indoor/outdoor antennas. The goal of the National Weather Service and emergency preparedness agencies is to expand the reach of weather radio broadcasts to cover more than 95 percent of the U.S. population. Innovative partnerships between the NWS,
private industry, and state and local governments are fueling this expansion. You can help foster such partnerships in your community. For more information
concerning developing a partnership with the NWS, contact your local weather service office.

Only the most imminent life- and property-threatening hazards are broadcasted with the SAME signal and 1050 Hertz warning alarm tone. The NWS issues these alerts when the public has to take immediate action to protect themselves and their
property. An operational guideline is that alerts are only for hazards urgent enough to warrant waking people up in the “middle of the night” or otherwise interrupting someone’s activities at any time. This includes tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, and more.

The NWS does not always tone alert for many winter storms, unless there is a dramatic change to the forecast. Audible tone alerts for winter weather warnings are generally issued only when the storm will pose a very significant threat to life and safety, as in major blizzards or extreme ice storms.

Desktop radios should always be plugged into the wall while its batteries are for back-up power in the event of a power outage.

If your weather radio has S.A.M.E., you can program it to sound an alert only if it affects your county. Most weather radios will allow you to program multiple S.A.M.E. county codes in case you would like to receive alerts for surrounding counties.

Contact Midland Radio’s Customer Service and send us the frequencies and privacy codes you want to use. We can create a data file for you to program into the radio using the software we provide on our website.

Citizen Band Radio (CB) and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) operate on different frequencies. CB radios are also only allowed by law to have up to 4 Watts of power whereas GMRS has power between 2 Watts and a maximum of 50 Watts.

No, these are pre-tuned for GMRS frequencies and do not work for CB or HAM.

No, there are no late fees if you miss a scheduled payment.

If your refund amount is less than the amount remaining on your Shop Pay Installments balance, then you can expect one or both of the following:

- A smaller payment balance on the final payment.

- Less future payments on the remaining loan balance.

If your refund amount is more than the amount remaining on your Shop Pay Installments balance, then you can expect to receive the difference as a refund to your original debit card or credit card payment method within 3 to 10 business days.
